BusinessSwitch victorious in last ball Cup Final thriller

Thursday evening saw a classic Cup Final played at the County Ground. Exeter Evening League cup holders Clyst Hydon took on BusinessSwitch.co.uk in a thrilling encounter.

Put into bat Clyst Hydon raced to 50-1 off 4 overs, Mangala the man out. Excellent batting from R Baggs (20) and I Sutton (58) built a sound platform for the holders, Chris Jelly adding a stylish 23 in their total of 158-6 from 20 overs. Dawson (2-29), Poortman (3-46) and Newman (1-23) the pick of the bowlers.

Chasing 8 an over for victory, BusinessSwitch lost openers Pavlou and Pullen early on. The middle order pair of Bobby Dawson and Mike Cliff then took control on a difficult wicket against accurate bowling from J Rhodes and Sanjey Rajapakse. Intelligent batting saw Dawson reach 53 after being caught on the boundary from a Richard Baggs delivery. Steve Poortman and Rob Newman offering Cliff sound support in the middle. It was left to BusinessSwitch Captain Lance Ames to hit the winning runs off the last ball with Man of the match Mike Cliff undefeated on 57. Baggs returning 3-18 for Clyst Hydon. BusinessSwitch reached 160-5 winning by 5 wickets.

A minutes silence was held before the presentation to mark the passing of League Chairman Michael Browning. The knock out cup will now be renamed in his honour.
