BT are planning to lock every analogue line in the country into a contract!
The lines you have for the fax, the alarm, the credit card machine that you presently run on a month to month basis have had a 'service' added to the line. The fact that the service is unwanted and unused is irrelevant! It does however seem to justify BT's attempt to give you a de-facto contract unless you actively opt-out.
Obviously this will cause major problems for UK businesses looking to move to more competitive suppliers. At present the regulator has put this BT proposal under scrutiny as it means that every business would only have the opportunity to leave BT once per year!
