Waste
What is Waste?
There are three ways of defining waste:
- From your point of view: You own personal waste from you tea bag this morning to manufacturing processes producing an unwanted by-product, thereby defined as waste.
- From the official point of view: Full definitions from the Environmental Protection Act 1990
- From our point of view: Waste is essentially your profits being thrown away, and then you are charged to have them thrown away! However your waste and your by-products may be useful to someone else in another process. Contact us to find out more.
How do I cut costs & save money?
Probably the best piece of advice in this area is:
"If you can bale it you can sell it"
Many companies produce large quantities of mixed waste, plastics, packaging, wood, paper and specific product waste. Much of which goes to landfill for which you are charged a small kings ransom.
However many companies have accesses specific training resources through BusinessSwitch.co.uk to provide workforce motivation to stream waste into recycling income/efficiency.
Example: A bed manufacturer has high volumes of waste wood shavings from the factory, plastic ties and packaging from delivery yard and cardboard from the finishing room.
Solution: The Company installed a solid fuel boiler for heating the factory fuelled from the waste wood. The thousands of plastic ties, packaging are cardboard are compacted in balers and sold. The return on investment was 20 months and now it is added profits.
